What is a farm share?

Our Farm Share program is a result of a long history of CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture. It is a mutually beneficial program where members invest into the farm and farmers by buying shares of vegetable prior the the beginning of the season and the farmers invest back into the members and their community by providing fresh, nutritious vegetables. The goal of our Farm Share is to encourage the health of the individuals participating by providing vegetables that people want to eat and doing so by farming in a way that is regenerative for the natural environment.

What will I receive in my weekly farm share?

What you will receive is entirely dependent on the season. In the Spring Share, salad mix, carrots, beets, asparagus, spinach, and arugula take the center stage. During the Summer Share, the classic flavors of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, sweet corn, eggplant, and summer squash will be in your share. For the Fall Share, salad greens, carrots, beets, and radishes will return, along with potatoes, butternut squash, and Brussels sprouts.

What amount of produce will i receive in a weekly share?

In previous years at King’s Hill Farm, there were two sizes of boxes: large and small. In 2019, the boxes will all be the same size and equivalent to the small boxes in the previous years. The small box will contain between 6 and 9 different types of vegetables each week that will be worth between $25-30/week. The small box should feed a family or a veggie-loving couple for a week. If in previous years, you were accustomed to buying the bi-weekly share, we encourage you to find a friend or neighbor and purchase a Share together, taking turns for who picks up the share each week.

How will my box be delivered every week?

For our members picking up in the greater Chicago area sites, pick up depends on the building where you are picking up your share. This usually means the loading dock for buildings in downtown Chicago. We will send out an email describing exactly where members in each building will pick up two weeks before the start of each section. Members picking up on the farm can pick up their share on our farm on Fridays or Saturdays during the season.

Why is there a delivery Charge for Chicago area members?

We value all of our members in the Chicago area, however we needed to consider the time and value of our labor as well as the transportation costs since our farm is three hours away from Chicago. The delivery charge is what we calculated we needed to make in order to cover all of our costs.

What happens if I buy the spring share now but decide I want to buy the royal share later?

If you buy the Spring Share and realize that you would like to continue the rest of the season, we will pro-rate the price of the Royal Share. This means we will subtract what you paid for the Spring Share from the cost of the Royal Share and you will owe us the remaining balance.

What are the deadlines to sign up?

The deadline to sign up for the Spring and Royal Shares are March 15. The deadline for the Summer Share is June 1. The deadline for the Fall Share is August 1. We need these deadlines so we can determine how much to plant.
