Opportunities abound at King’s Hill Farm. We have openings in employee positions, intern and also on the volunteer level, all of which offer expert guidance, and an unforgettable experience. Learning firsthand about sustainable agricultural practices will benefit you and your community for future generations. One of the missions of King’s Hill Farm is to educate through example.
Working on the farm delivers first hand experience on alley cropping: terraforming that naturally promotes “swales and ridges” landscaping, where annuals grow next to perennials, and edible forests deliver years of fruits and nuts. Organically raised livestock, water foul live on the open range during the summer season, and are over-wintered in greenhouses, conditioning the soil for future crops.

Details about Internship / Apprenticeship / Volunteering
Our internship program invites curious learners to partake in our growing farm season. A week on the farm will be filled with greenhouse, field, edible forest, animals, and time for discussion. The farm is busy year round (though we are obviously much busier during the growing season), and we welcome applicants at any time. Hot lunches, housing, utilities, some bulk food, edible straight of the vine goodness, adventure a season with weathered farmers and the community involved.
For interns we accept all applications. Attitude and energetic motivation are very important! Must be open to the lessons in the daily activities to fully absorb the seasons knowledge. The farm is dynamic filled with daily challenges. Only through patience and creative perseverance will all involved enjoy the seasons bounties and rewards. We prefer and encourage a full season commitment, but accept shorter commitments as well. It takes a lot of energy to train people and our request is that interested individuals stick around for as much as the season as possible to really understand what it means to farm specialty certified organic produce and animals. We endeavor to maintain a supportive family friendly environment. We encourage a working interview for a day to make sure that everyone feels that their goals for joining the Kings Hill Farm will be mutually beneficial.

Our internship program is intended to be a well rounded learning experience. We welcome intern applicants at any time for the next seasons internship. An internship season is from April 1 to November 30 or agreed upon dates comparable. Interns will have a curriculum of seasonal activities and tasks and a weekly schedule. Each intern will take one market shift per week and rotate through our markets to get a taste of marketeering! While our main focus is vegetable production, opportunities are also available to help with and learn about:
- Organic fruit production
- Machinery, operation, maintenance, repair, and design
- Marketing and CSA management
- Beekeeping
- Seed production and plant propagation
- Greenhouse operation and management
- Prairie plants and wildflowers
- Wild herbs and edible wild plants

During free time the farm offers nature walks, canoeing, bike trails, meditative solitude, and all the nearby attractions of southwest Wisconsin.
